An interview with Health & Safety Officer Danielle Parkes
Name: Danielle Parkes
Job title: Health & Safety Officer
Length of Service: Over 5 years
Tell us a little about your background – what did you do before joining The Cotswold Company?
I worked for a company called Kelly Communications. I worked in the technicians call center helping techs with their jobs. Locating cabs, poles and connecting BT lines etc.
Why did you choose The Cotswold Company as an employer?
I was made redundant from Kelly Communications just after Christmas; so, I didn’t choose The Cotswold Company, but I did choose to stay. I started working here through a recruitment agency as an administrator for the warehouse team. I was taken on full time and on a permanent basis after six short weeks.
I was then given training opportunities such as; first aid, fire marshal and IOSH managing safely. Following this, I got promoted to Office Supervisor, then Operations Supervisor as my manager at the time saw that I had a keen interest in Health and Safety, so gave me more responsibilities in that area. I have since sat more courses and got a further promotion to my current position, Health & Safety Officer for the company.
What does a typical working day for you involve? What do you enjoy most about your job?
I have full health and safety responsibility for all sites across the company, so I get to travel across the country to see and/or speak to many of the employees who work for The Cotswold Company.
What is your favourite furniture item, range or home accessory, and why?
I love many of the items we have, especially the lovely accessories. My favourite range would be Chantilly White because it’s clean and very good quality for the price point.
Please tell us something personal that you don’t mind us sharing; e.g. family, animals, hobbies etc., that helps to introduce you!
I am a cat lover! I have four cats – two ginger boys and two little black girls. I am a qualified fitness instructor/personal trainer too, so I enjoy being active in the gym.
