An interview with our Retail Operations Manager Chris Lok
Name: Chris Lok
Job title: Retail Operations Manager
Length of Service: 6 months
Tell us a little about your background — what did you do before joining The Cotswold Company?
I have worked in Retail for many years in various industries; Footwear, Beauty, FMCG and recently, Fossil Watches as Area Manager for their London and Southern locations.
Why did you choose The Cotswold Company as an employer?
I read reviews and researched the brand. I knew it was expanding and Retail would be a focus for the company. I was excited about being a part of a growing business and having an opportunity to help shape the future. The culture was also a huge factor for me as I really enjoy working with people; coaching and development have always been a passion! The other part of it was about collaboration; the ability to share ideas and views in an open way.
During your short time working here, how would you describe what it’s like to work at The Cotswold Company? What do you enjoy most about your job?
A lot to learn and ever evolving! This really excites me and keeps me busy, which I enjoy.
Every day and week can vary; I can be in the office in meetings with other departments then be travelling for the week to all the showrooms to support the teams. Every location has its own character and uniqueness. I really like that.
I have a great team who are passionate. I look forward to visiting and supporting them in making their business a success. We learn from each other and work closely together.
What is your favourite furniture item, range or home accessory, and why?
This changes all the time! Ledbury Painted Sideboard; the pattern of the marble top and the cool grey tones make it a great piece in any hallway. It looks bold and is a timeless piece for me.
Please tell us something personal that you don’t mind us sharing; e.g. family, animals, hobbies etc., that helps to introduce you!
In the early noughties I went for an audition for a London West End musical. It was during a time where reality TV shows such as Popstars were huge! I had no professional acting or singing… (I did study Performing Arts, however). No surprise, but it did not go particularly well! Funnily enough, I was not fazed at the time how much it was a disaster. What likely lasted the whole of 2 minutes felt like an eternity!
